The neck is comfortable, with a C profile and a 9.5" radius. The woods are of the same quality as the more "senior" models, and they have aged very well. It is equipped with a single neck pickup, a hardtail bridge, and two knobs (volume and tone). This is the version II, with a 24" scale, which makes it very easy to handle. The Musicmaster was a student guitar, as the manufacturers copied the categories of the classical guitars at that time. This is a guitar that has been played relatively little over the last 60 years. The frets are original, and they are in good condition. The case is not a Fender, but it is the original one: at the time, many Fenders were imported without a case, as it was an option (for the record, it did cost 24 USD in 1965). The Musicmaster came first by a couple of months. Both original models were short-scale guitars22.5 inches compared to 25.5 inches for the Telecaster and Stratocasterwith slightly smaller bodies, Strat-like headstocks and single-coil pickups. A 24-inch scale is still relatively short, the same as the Fender Jaguar but a full inch and a half shorter than the Stratocaster and three-quarters of an inch shorter than the Gibson Les Paul. The Mustang has an offset waist, reminiscent of the Jazzmaster, but its overall styling closely followed the existing student models the Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic, the slight waist offset being the main change.
